Gunnel was born in Lammhult and grew up with the family furniture store, Svenssons.
Always surrounded by design led her to study art at The Atlantic Collage in Wales. After that , she moved to Italy and enrolled at Scuola Politécnica di Design in Milan where she studied industrial and interior architecture in Denmark
Her studies paid off, and at the age of twenty, Gunnel was able to take on the role of managing exhibitions and product design for a company in Bad Salzuflen in Germany. With responsibility for over a hundred exhibitions throughout the country she planned and designed the exhibitions stands.
Returning to Sweden , for over 20 years, she designed with Svenssons Möbler before starting Belysningsbolaget in 1993. The new company´s name proved unpronounceable in English speaking markets. So the streamlined Bsweden was born.
Success came quickly. Within a year, Bsweden won the British Industry Award for Gunnel´s Ghost lightning series. Since then, Bsweden has won the Utmärkt Svensk Form, the Blueprint Award, Wan Award ant the Elle Deco Design Award tree times.
